Carolyn C. Chang, M.D. is a board-certified plastic surgeon practicing in the Pacific Heights area of San Francisco. She specializes in cosmetic surgery of the face, breast, and body, and reconstructive surgery of the breast. She is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.  Dr. Chang serves as the Vice-Chairman for the Department of Plastic Surgery at California Pacific Medical Center. Dr. Chang has a unique practice philosophy and style.  She has recently opened a separate location which better reflects her singular vision. Please visit her at 2100 Webster Street, Suite 508, 415-923-3070.

Dr. Chang graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree with honors from Stanford University and received the Deans Award for Excellence in Clinical Medicine at Stanford University Medical School.  She did her general surgery and plastic surgery training at Stanford University Medical Center. She then completed an additional advanced surgical fellowship at New York University, and a second year of further specialization in the field of cosmetic surgery under the guidance of Dr. John Q. Owsley, one of the pioneers of the modern SMAS facelift.

Dr. Chang is one of San Francisco Magazine's Top 150 Doctors, and and was chosen as one of 7x7 Magazine's 2006 “Hot 20 under 40.” She was recently featured in San Francisco Magazine for her expertise in the "mommy makeover." Media appearances include the KRON 4 Morning Show, Dr. Dean Edell, many nightly news broadcasts, and the KGO Ronn Owens Show. She has appeared in Oprah Magazine, W Magazine, and Marie Claire, and has been profiled in the San Francisco Chronicle, Dolce Magazine, and Asian Week, among other publications. She is an invited lecturer both locally and nationally on a wide range of topics in the field of aesthetic surgery and breast reconstruction. She is published in the professional and lay literature related to these topics, and has been an instructor for courses in liposuction and in aesthetic surgery. She currently participates in resident and medical student teaching at California Pacific Medical Center.

Dr. Chang focuses primarily on cosmetic surgery and is the only member of the group with fellowship training in facial aesthetic surgery. Dr. Chang specializes in performing a natural SMAS facelift but does not hesitate to offer her patients more minimal facial rejuvenation options, believing that the key to aging gracefully includes smaller preventative procedures.  Dr. Chang has a deep understanding of both the latest techniques and in the aesthetic importance of providing patients with a beautiful, completely natural appearance as the final result.

Dr. Chang has the unique distinction of being equally accomplished in both the fields of facial surgery as well as that for the breast and body.  She has performed countless breast and body procedures, particularly for the post-partum woman. She currently performs one of the  largest volumes in the area of breast reductions and lifts using shorter scars and breast reconstructions using implants.  She favors a natural breast augmentation.  Other areas of expertise include liposuction and body contouring, and breast reconstruction after traditional mastectomy and nipple-sparing mastectomy.

In her spare time, Dr. Chang is active philanthropically. She is devoted to animal welfare and is dedicated to breast cancer causes. She serves on the Board of Trustees for Pets Unlimited Veterinary Shelter and Hospital and provides breast reconstruction for California Pacific Medical Center's African American Breast Health Program, a service for underserved women in need of breast cancer treatments.

Dr. Chang's patients select her as their surgeon for her caring bedside manner, her commitment to providing customized surgical outcomes, beautiful aesthetic results, and a safe, gratifying surgical experience.
